Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Upgrades to items allow players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting the base stats of the item or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from previous versions. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item can only be upgraded a certain number of times before it is "leveled out." The upgrade cost is increased with each level, but the required materials don't increase as much. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the impact of these items rather than dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

For example, the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials and 250 Enchanted Dust, and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. In general, weapons and armor have a higher trade value when they are fully updated. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have weapons-damage or spell glyphs.
